For months now, every night as we prepare for bed Jac asks,
“WHAT are we going to name this baby?”
My answer is always the same – I have no idea. Honestly, this process of naming a child just keeps getting more and more difficult. Susan asked if we’ve asked God about it. Apparently, He’s pretty good at the name thing (see Abraham, Sarah, John, Jesu and Peter to name a few. . .). We have and yet He remains stubbornly silent. We are left, therefore, to our own devises. Jac, for his part, has all but given up, announcing that we will have to see the babe before we make a decision. Meanwhile, I’d like a plan.
You see, waaaaay back when the weather was really hot and in a moment of dehydrated induced delirium, I bribed Neil Rumplestiltskin style. I told him that if he started his own business before our baby was born, he could name the child. We didn’t shake on it or anything, but he’s been calling regularly to remind us of the deal and update us on his progress. It has me slightly nervous as he knows where we live and has so much dirt on Jac that things could get ugly.
And so, here we are. Back by popular demand (or not. . . ) is the Daniel Baby Name Poll! You tell us what you like – or what you don’t- or write in suggestions. Some thoughts on this: We think a Christmas-y baby should have a Christmas-y name perhaps. We do saint names around here and this site has easy to browse lists. Also important to keep in mind is the fact that all the kids have Doctors of the Church as part of their names. We’d like to keep that tradition. You can find the list here.
There it is. Have at it. Tell your friends and pray for us. Please. Save us from the fate of a child named New Box ( Neil’s front runner. Lord have mercy.)
The trick for naming babies in this family is to yell their name. 80% of the time names are the most audible words in this house so we like to practice by rolling the first and middle names followed by first, middle and last to see if it has a nice ring. We’ve come up with a good mix and it seems, looking at your polls, you have too. Good luck!
We each had to vote separately because we all had different opinions. Hannah had the best opinion and thinks you should name the baby Sophia or Charles. 🙂 Actually my opinion is better and it is baby Sophia or Thomas (and Tom had to agree with me)
Good luck over these next few weeks!
Angie
I agree with Saboin–I believe you should yell it like you are at a soccer game and you are cheering them on.
I chose Frances Nicollette… would this one be a Nickie, you know take the middle name like the other 2 girls? If not I like Sophia or Sofie, it is fun!
Papa Chris says NO Charles!
I think Joseph is always a great choice, not so positive about the Josephine…
What happened to Chris or Anthony??
I am really liking the Gabriel.
Love the tradition with all your children’s names! I vote for Sophia Noel for a girl and Xavier John for a boy. Whatever this new babe is named, it will be perfect for him/her. Good luck!!!
I’m really thinking that Emmanuel is an absolute keeper
and that Ignatius or Athanasius are great patrons. (Or how about Michael?)
and though I think you have a son in utero
Lucy with Noel or Sophia are my pick.
Dad thinks, if you have a girl, her name should be Guadalupe so you can call her lupe(loopy) 😛
Moms and my vote is for Sophia Noel. 🙂
I love Sophia Noel or Joseph Ambrose! Praying for some extra rest and strength for you during this season 🙂
My vote for a girl is Sophia Noel. Tyler is home sick and he likes Lucy Johanna. The boy name is harder because I love the names Gabriel and Emmanuel, so I guess either on that front. I am very tempted by Jesus, though. I think that would be an awesome nod to your heritages. Whatever the name, this will be a very, very lucky child to be born into the Daniels family. Annie and Jacques, you are fantastic parents!!!
I must agree Sophia Noel has a nice ring to it, and after reading your last blog, I kinda of think Max could be onto something with Nicholas. I do like Gabriel though too. Whatever you choose it will be wonderful and a perfect fit for the new little one:)
I like Sophia Noel a LOT!
I like Gabriel Francis!
considering that there is nothing wrong with Biblical names, have y’all considered naming the child after another family member, and please don’t read this the wrong way, i’m not trying to influence any decisions, but of the eight grandchildren i have only one has the name of a family member, i have always thought it to be an honor to be named after a family member weather living or deceased, that way the name is carried on. again it’s just a thought. thanks for letting me share, your uncle roy.
What do you think of Josephine Noel? I think it flows well. We like Sophia Noel for a girl, and I like Joseph Ambrose and Gabriel as a middle name. Only thing is, what would you use as a nickname? Great choices though! Nicholas also is fun, and if used as a middle name Nick could be the nickname. 🙂 It all ends up with you though, I am sure you will choose the perfect name for your new baby.
Only fifteen days left! 🙂
I think Annabel as the middle name for the girl and Giorgio as the middle name of the boy…of course I’m a bit partial.
I’m going to have to go with Charlie, specifically because then he would be named Charlie Daniels who is a poet who describes the Evil One being defeated in a battle of string instruments.
That, or Optimus.
Gabriel Xavier or Xavier Gabriel! Gloria Noel!
Honestly, the only Lucy’s and Lupe’s I’ve known have been nightmarishly dingy!!! I was telling Papa Bill the other day that I had wished I had suggested Kate (Katherine Noelle). I would like Frances if you spelled is Francis. Sophia Noelle would be next choice. The other names – eek. I have always liked the name Christian for a boy – Christian Thomas or Christian Joseph? Very Danish name – Nana Joyce liked it, too. Not sure how it fits with the doctors of the church theory. . . I’ll leave that up to you. Of the given choices, I like Thomas best!
My vote is Sophia or Gabriel. My great grandmothers name was Sophia. Our granddaughter was born near Christmas and her name is Aubrey Noelle How about Gabriel Nicholas?
What happened to joey?
