Last week, our BFF’ came to town.  Well, the BFFs minus Aaron, anyway.  It was very exciting!

We cleaned the house in anticipation.

I had to break the news gently to the kids.  It went a little something like this:

“Children of mine!  Listen up!”

[Laughter, rolling around on the floor and blatant ignoring of their mother happened here.]

“Hey! Are you guys listening?” followed by heavy, serious silence only a mother can lay down.

It still took a minute. . .

“What, mom?” Philip finally inquired.

“Lacey and Bailey – ”

“Bailey Brown! Bailey Brown!”

“Yes, Bailey AND Angela and Asher and Abram are -”

“HEY!” Tess yelled.  (And really?  All she DOES is yell. . . ) “Those guys are my GRANDSONS!”

She was thinking Godparents and it came out sons. Close enough.

What I ended up telling them doesn’t matter as it involved cleaning, but what happened is that we got to spend a day with some of my favorite people and their kiddos.  Then, thanks to the abundant snow, Angela and the boys came back for another day of science and fun.

“Hey!  Cause I AM a scientist, actually!” Asher exclaimed.

Good news!

We needed a scientist in our midst to help with the cornstarch goo.  Thankfully, Greg gave us a heads up about viscosity and we had a great morning of learning.  So glad the Bucholz were here with us!

If you want to do this “expermience” yourself, you need a 16 oz. box of cornstarch, 1-2 c. of cool water and some food coloring. In a large bowl, pour about 1/4 c. of cornstarch and add a little water and stir.  Continue to do this, alternating cornstarch and water until you’ve used all 16 oz. and the mixture is the consistency of honey.  Add a drop or two of the food coloring and then let the fun begin!  Drop toys in and attempt to get them out – it’s just like quicksand.  If you pour it into a baking dish, you can slap the liquid and then watch what happens.  “Whoa!!! Soooooo coool!” to quote Max.

Give it a go!  You won’t be disappointed.

P.S. If you make this goo, DO NOT dump it down the drain!  Pour it in a plastic bag and throw it away. Unless you want a visit from your plumber . . .
