PART 1:

Mama Syd arrives in 11 days.  Though I am not  as desperate need of her assistance as I was last year, I am looking forward to the brightness of spring she will bring to our slushy, mushy March.  The countdown is on at least 5 times a day from 3 different people.

PART 2:

Today all of the floors were swept and mopped.  Okay, so not ALL all, but the kitchen, dining room and living room were taken care of.  And the hallway!  That’s a big deal.

It took an hour and 25 minutes.

Really.

PART 3:

As I stood back and surveyed my work, Philip came trotting up the stairs.  He was on a mission, but he took a moments pause.

“Hey!  Our place kinda looks clean!”

Kinda??

“Yep, Philip, it kinda does.”

“And mom.  We won’t clean again until after Mama Syd comes.  I’m serious.”

Then he was gone.

PART 4:

What I think he meant to say was that they would not make a mess, hence no need to clean between now and Mama Syd’s arrival.

Only in my dreams.

PART 5:

By the end of lunch, 20 minutes after our conversation, Philip and Ellie had made such a mess of their lunches that we could have served the food that was on my freshly mopped floor as another full meal.

That, my friends, is my waking nightmare.
