FYI, don’t mix watching Flight of the Conchords and trailers for the new Hobbit film on the laptop into your before bed routine.
A few nights ago, Jac surfed the web and then put in a little FotC while we chilled in bed. It was late. We were tired. And in true Jac fashion, the moment the computer was turned off and his eyes closed, he fell asleep. I, on the other hand, was decidedly NOT sleeping. Normally this only slightly annoys me – the me being awake and him not – and I just wait it out until I drift off, too. But this night was excruciating. I was worrying over several things (though I can’t recall them now), was sore from head to toe and nauseous. Then he started to snore. Again, I am not easily phased by this. It is rather like my “white noise machine,” my husbands snoring. But THIS night was different. I rubbed his chest in the hope he would turn over.
“Are you making fun of me?!” Jac snapped.
“Um … noooo. I don’t want your throat to hurt tomorrow.”
“I don’t even know where New Zealand is!!!!”
I didn’t dare laugh because of his defensive first question. And as he went back to sleep and I didn’t, I couldn’t help but think it was better to have an entirely incoherent conversation than a semi-lucid train of thought that I often had with my brother when he talked in his sleep. That’s just embarrassing and frustrating for all involved.
By the way, it should be noted that …
– Jac was the one to suggest this post.
– He had no memory of the conversation the next morning.
– New Zealand is South East of Australia.
