Friday was the first game of the season for the St. Thomas More Cavaliers.  We went to root for “our’ team, watch the boys Jacques is teaching and listen to Nate announce the game (you can listen to him, too, here!)  It was a home game but the Cav’s stadium is under construction so we drove to Douglas to watch them face Hot Springs.  So, THIS is what federal money does for you! The field was spectacular, had an amazing view and allowed us to get the closes to the action as we probably ever will.

This nearness posed a few problems.  First, it made us nervous as cats that the kids would fall through the railings and onto the track (*see image of Philip below*).  Secondly, it put us up close and personal with the cheerleaders.  Or, as Max called them, “Crazy Girls.” (Jac blames me for the moniker, but I plead the fifth. I really don’t know where he got it!)  They were enthralled with the action.

We arrived at the third quarter – perfect timing in my opinion.  We got in free, it was about as much as the kids could take and the weather was then perfect.  After the game we experienced the “fellowship’ for the first time (normally we cut out with a minute left to play to beat the rush).  The fans stream onto the field to pray with the huddled team then everyone greets their favorite players and the stars.  It really is something.  And the kids LOVED it.  For Max it was like being at the Super Bowl After Party – “Mom!  I got to give Andy a knuckle and tell him I saw him!”  “Dad!  I saw Liam!  And Johnny!  And Robert!  And PATRICK!!!”  Philip recieved a tour of the crows nest courtesy of Nate and Jac got to visit with his Photography professor from BH.  Good times all around.

In a weird turn of events the kids have been pretending to be “Crazy Girls” all weekend, jumping on the beds, cheering “Jump! Jump!  Shake your Booty!  Jump! Jump! Shake your Booty!” Tess says “Chuck, chuck!  Boooooty!”  Nice.  Oh, and the Cavs won, 21-6.
